Celebrate a Birthday With Us!

We’re celebrating one year of recovery ministries at The Salvation Army Kroc Center, and we’d like you to join us for the big party!  Details below the graphic:

The fun begins at 6:00 p.m. with a cookout in the Education Building Courtyard.  Pick up a burger, some chips, soda – even a salad or a fruit cup.  It’s about a buck a thing, which makes for some cheap family eats.

At 7:00, we move the party east a few hundred feet to the Kroc Center Pool Deck.  It’s free to attend, and we’ll have open swim throughout the event.  Hit the high dive boards, take some underwater photos and video, or just relax poolside and enjoy the music.

We’ll celebrate with a great big cake from San Diego Desserts, commemorate one year of success with the presentation of a plaque by Captain John Van Cleef, and simply enjoy the evening with trusted friends and companions along the road to recovery.

No RSVP is necessary, but if you have questions, just send ‘em to recovery@thekroc.org.

Musical Guest: David Harsh

On Sunday, March 28, 2010 Special Musical Guest David Harsh will share his unique music ministry with our church.

David will introduce two new songs into our congregational repertoire: In His Hands and All The Earth Will Sing Your Praises.  He will also share a unique, insightful original composition entitled “The Little Things,” exploring the tremendous impact our casual words and actions have on others around us.

David is a long-time friend of the Kroc Center.  He is truly a one-man band, using modern technology to create and layer sound loops in real-time, playing and singing multiple parts without pre-recording anything!

Bring a friend!  This Sunday’s worship service is planned with first-time guests in mind!

David’s Sunday morning ministry is mostly congregational, but his Monday evening ministry is mostly uplifting concert performance, with some interaction.  Plan for both – have a great weekend with David Harsh!

Welcome from The General of The Salvation Army:

If you’re unable to commit, you can still participate.  Quiz Kroc Church delegate Josh S.; ask for the post-event summary e-book, and keep an open mind on what it means to “Do justice, love mercy and walk humbly” as lights in dark places.

In response to community safety concerns felt throughout San Diego County, The Salvation Army Kroc Center is hosting a FREE Self Defense workshop for local women (ages 13 and up).

The 90 minute workshop is presented by Play It Safe Defense, whose instructors regularly visit schools, churches, scouting programs and community centers to teach valuable self defense and safety skills to women and children throughout San Diego County.

The content of this presentation – addressing safety concerns raised in light of recent tragedies – is intended for women ages 13 and above.  This event is free and open to the public; no registration required.  Wednesday, March 31, 2010; 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.; Kroc Center Gym.

Open House this Saturday

We’re having an Open House this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and we’d like a couple of volunteers to help represent Kroc Church to all of our guests.

You’d have to be willing to be polite, answer questions and show our guests the human side of Kroc Church.

Interested, contact Captain Lisa Van Cleef!

Wanna Play?

The big Bunco game is now a quarterly gig, so you’ll want to come to the October game or you’ll have to wait until 2010!

Bunco is a fast-past, exciting game played with regular game board dice.  Ouronly guarantee is that you can’t possibly get bored – and that three people will walk away with prizes.  That’s right, a prize for scoring the most “Buncos”, a prize for the most wins and even a prize for the most losses.

No experience necessary. Even the numbskullest of numbskulls can learn the game in about three minutes!  So come on – give us an RSVP and come have a night out!
